CFR MSRIM-UoM’s Doctoral (PhD) program is a 4-year doctoral program designed to meet the needs of academic, research, industry based professionals who wish to enhance their business and research education through research in action. The program builds on the business acumen of previously undertaken Postgraduate studies, using business intelligence as tools to solve concerns in industry, corporate and other related areas.

This program inspires one to initiate and work around to acquire new perspectives to any business concerns / problems in an innovative way.

Guidelines for Enrollment and the PhD program

1.0 Guidelines

The guidelines that govern the award of degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) are in accordance with the University of Mysore’s Ph.D. Regulations 2017.

The Pre-PhD course work has been framed by the Board of Studies at the UoM. This is formally structured (and is a pre-PhD registration activity) and comprises of mandated courses for all the candidates seeking admission into the Doctoral program in Management.

2.0 Eligibility for enrolment into PhD program

The primary eligibility is for such candidates who have completed their two years MBA or any other Master's Degree with a minimum of 55% of marks. Further, the candidate has to qualify in any of the below mentioned entrance / qualifying exams (but must have Management as the core subject in such exams)

  • UGC Junior Research Fellow (UGC - JRF)
  • UGC National Eligibity Test (UGC - NET)
  • Karnataka State Eligibility Test (K - SET)
3.0 Foreign Nationals’ eligibility for enrolment

The enrolment of foreign nationals into the Pre-PhD program is based on the submission of a certificate of approval, which is provided by the International Centre, UoM, Mysore.

6.0 Procedure for selection

A Doctoral Committee has been constituted and will so function, as per the norms of the UoM’s Ph.D. regulations 2017 and thus will

  • Govern the complete PhD Program at CFRMSRIM
  • Selection of the candidate is based on the following process
    1. Submission of the PhD enrollment form
    2. Personal interview and
    3. A presentation of a research topic (along with the methodology) to the Doctoral Committee
  • Selection of the candidate for the program is at the discretion of this Committee
  • Allocate a recognized Doctoral guide to the concerned Research scholar
  • The allotted Doctoral guide gives a consent in writing that he / she is willing to guide the research scholar
  • Selected candidate has to complete the enrolment process along with payment of the prescribed fee
  • Candidates submitting their application for this program will have to sign a declaration that they have understood the rules / regulations in its entirety and that they will conduct themselves in a proper manner; Else will result in dis-qualification from the program
7.0 Pre-PhD Research Course Work

The selected candidate has :

  • To undergo Pre PhD research course work at UoM for a minimum duration of 15 class contact hours on each of the below mentioned courses (as has been stipulated by the UoM),
  • Selection of the candidate is based on the following process
    1. Course work paper 1: Advanced Research Methodology
    2. Course work paper 2: Review of Literature
  • To complete the prescribed Pre-PhD course work (as stipulated by UoM) within 2 years from the date of enrollment
  • Based on the successful completion of the Pre-PhD course work, the candidate can register for the PhD program
7.1 Additional Course Work
  • The Doctoral Committee, at its discretion mandates the candidate to attend 30 contact sessions of One hour each on the selected Doctoral course works spread over two (2) terms conducted by CFR MSRIM.
  • Candidates are required to remit a fee for each term to CFR-MSRIM for the said course. In case of candidates who have adequate academic / work experience, the requirement of attending classes may be waived by the doctoral committee of CFR-MSRIM.
  • However, all the candidates are required to go through the examination process for the selection of subjects, along with performance assessment exercises.
  • The candidates are required to obtain grades in the selected subjects of the Doctoral course work in both the term to the satisfaction of the respective guides and in any case, the grade cannot be lower than ‘B’ grade (or 60%) in the subjects. If this requirement is not met, the guide may ask the candidate to redo these course by appearing in a separate examination and undergoing orientation by paying a fee per subject.
  • The decision of Doctoral committee will be final in this matter.
8.0 Progress Report
  • The candidates registered for Ph.D as above have to submit their progress report once in a year. Added to this, they have to make a presentation before the guide and/or Doctoral Committee.
  • The progress report of the research work with the prescribed tuition fee should be submitted to the Director of Research (DoR) / PhD section, UoM, through CFR-MSRIM once in a year. Failure to submit the Annual report will entail cancellation of the registration as per the University Ph.D. regulations 2017.
  • The candidates have to publish at least one paper in a refereed journal every year of the period leading to the final submission of the thesis. These papers should be under the broad topical area of the thesis.
  • Such of the research papers published must carry the name of CFR-MSRIM, mentioned against the name of the candidate.
  • The maximum duration to complete and submit the PhD thesis is 4 years. An extension of 2 years is provided (over and above the 4 year period). But upon completion of the same, the candidate has to be register again with a new title.
9.0 Submission of the PhD thesis
  • Upon the satisfactory completion of research work and subject to the approval from the guide, the candidate is allowed to complete the formalities of the submission of the PhD thesis (at the UoM).
  • The candidate will complete the requirements for the PhD thesis submission indicated by the UoM regulations, as per clauses 8.1, 8.2 and 8.3.
  • The PhD thesis should be as per the guidelines for Doctoral Research in Page No’s from 12 to 17 of the UoM regulations, which includes a pre-submission presentation of the PhD thesis.
  • The PhD thesis submitted along with necessary enclosures will be forwarded to the Directorate of Research, University of Mysore, Mysore, through CFR-MSRIM, Mysore for further evaluation.
  • The results will be conveyed as per the providence of information as obtained from the DoR, UoM.
10.0 Rules as per the PhD regulations of UoM

The rules governing the PhD regulations will be as per the UoM’s directions. The above guidelines/regulations are subject to change based on the decisions taken by the Doctoral Committee.

All candidates will have to adhere to the rules of CFR-MSRIM in respect of conduct and procedures, framed from time to time, and any failure to adhere to these requirements could result in discontinuation of the program, for such candidate.
